Cemetery Sleuthing
There was a competition of activities on June 14th, as well as it being Flag Day, a day to honor and celebrate our national flag. That affected the number of people who attended this event. The day turned out to be to be a beautiful sunny late spring day, however, and a few of us showed up to participate in the sleuthing activity at Baird Cemetery. The event had been prepared by Molly and Bruce Douglas.
Some of the facts we uncovered:
1. Valeria, which was Volney Baird’s wife’s name (This was our hardest to find)
2. the Civil War, the war Arza P. Noyes fought and died in
3. John Crosby, the person to have a Chittenden Volunteer Fire Department flag and staff on his tombstone
I also discovered the grave of an ancestor of a friend of mine that they have been looking for for some time and the grave of Nathaniel Ladd. He was an original proprietor of the town and well as the first town clerk. Many interesting stories can be found in our old cemeteries if one takes the time to look. Watch for future sleuthing activities with the CHS and join us in the fun.

Friends of the Town Hall
As of June 20th, we have sent out two grant applications. Money from grants will help to install heat pumps and allow for an upgrade of the electrical system. They will also help pay for the engineer’s inspection concerning water in the basement. Details will soon be available as an attachment to the Historical Society’s webpage.
To donate to the Town Hall fund, make checks payable to: Chittenden Historical Society and on the memo note indicate “for Friends of the Town Hall Project.”
