DESCRIPTION:It’s Ice Cream Social Time\, Again! \n\n\n\nCome join the Chittenden Historical Society for our Annual Ice Cream Social\, featuring make your own sundaes. Children’s activities will be available. \n\n\n\nThis is also the evening that we honor the eighth grade winner of the Muzzy-Davenport Award for Excellence in Chittenden History. This year’s honoree is Luke Valcour for his project on the Economics of 1800’s Chittenden. Luke will be the evening’s speaker.  \n\n\n\nThe Award was named for Bert Muzzy and Edmund Davenport. Bert was born and raised in Chittenden\, VT\, attended the University of Vermont\, was known for his outspokenness and passionate love of the land. The Chittenden Historical Society established and named the award for him in the 1990’s. Ed Davenport’s name was added in 2006. Ed had a life-long love for the Town of Chittenden and was devoted to the preservation of Chittenden’s history.  \n\n\n\nThe celebration is Tuesday\, July 9\, 2024 beginning at 6:30 PM at the Chittenden Grange Hall\, 3 Middle Road\, Chittenden\, VT

SUMMARY:From Parlor to Polling Place: Stories and Songs of Suffragists
DESCRIPTION:On 10/8/2024 at 7:00 PM\, Linda Radtke will be speaking at the Chittenden Grange Hall\, 3 Middle Road\, Chittenden\, VT on From the Parlor to the Polling Place: Stories and Songs from the Suffragists. Singer and historian LInda Radtke\, in period garb and “Votes for Women” sash\, celebrates the centennial of the passage of the 19th Amendment\, specifically highlighting the decades-long persistence of Vermonters\, both women and men. Radtke also traces the movement’s alignment with other social justice initiatives such as temperance\, labor conditions\, wage equity\, peace and children’s welfare. Both the songs and stories in Radtke’s engaging presentation\, accompanied by pianist Cameron Steinmetz\, highlight Vermonters’ efforts from 1840-1921\, as they lobbied in churches\, at “parlor meetings” at town halls and at the State House for total enfranchisement. \n\n\n\nThis talk is free\, open to the public\, and accessible to those with disabilities.
